In 1985, a group of local professionals recognized a need for the provision of services for the increasing number of older people living in Milford and the surrounding villages. Many of these people were living in isolation alone, perhaps with mobility problems or being looked after by a family member or unpaid carer.
A day centre was founded in temporary accommodation at the Milford Scout Hut HQ, opening on two days a week.
After 12 years of searching and fundraising, a dedicated group of volunteers, many of whom still volunteer and support us today, found a suitable site and the funds to finance it.
In 1998, the doors of the new building were officially opened and it is now known as The Clockhouse.
The Clockhouse exists to provide a safe, sociable and stimulating environment for people over 50 years where they can associate with their peer group and take advantage of the wide range of services on offer. The Clockhouse is the operating name of Milford and Villages Day Centre, a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee, located in Milford but serving a community of nine villages and the surrounding areas.
We celebrate our 30th anniversary in 2016.
Our building is owned and operated by the company and a Board of Trustees governs The Clockhouse in accordance with its Memorandum and Articles of Association. A full-time Manager and part-time staff manage day-to day operations supported by a team of dedicated volunteers. We are delighted to have Dame Penelope Keith as our President.
We enjoy a close relationship with EmployAbility, through whom we have one member of staff and we also work with young adults with learning difficulties through Surrey Heath Area Partnership for Education.
